Back to School Sale!

For Sale: Some observations on heading back to grad school after a hiatus.

1. It takes a little time to start sounding "smart" again (bluffing takes a little work).

2. People are still as random as ever. You still think, "what are they even talking about?"

3. The habit of forsaking life for homework does not come back quickly.

4. I am really sick of minutely analyzing my grammar structure. I want to go write some PCR reports where it doesn't matter at all. <--I never thought this last sentence could occur in this dimension

5. The diversity of backgrounds and life goals--even within a specific academic focus--is staggeringly beautiful.

6. Teachers are a special breed. I can now spot a K-12 teacher from across the room. Seriously.

7. Next time I decide to take a class full of other teachers, remind me to record the entire thing so that I can remember all the fantastic ideas.

8. I now have access to the inside scoop on teaching English in Korea, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and the various cultural settings here within American schools. Wow!

9. It is still impossible to sit ALL DAY in class without going completely mad.

10. I am now filled with ideas on how to make 6 hours of class time go by quickly with activities, group discussions, and presentations.

P.S. My mind was totally blown with the effective technology toys that I got to see in action. I was totally drooling.

  1. So I was hunting for you in the picture and thought, "I bet she's on the very top." And sure enough, you were up high. And now I could make very cheesy remarks about rising to the top academically, but am resisting... :-)
